Do most Indians really believe lighter skin is more natural and beautiful?

I am an Indian from the U.S. I watch many Indian films and know lots of things about India most people don't know. But my question really asks why lighter skin is considered better looking than darker. Are not most Indians dark anyway? The answer is we are with exceptions- the people who usually land in media jobs. I don't understand it. If the British were so cruel to Indians, why are their looks and behaviors envied throughout India? Was it colonial mentality or what? I just want good answers please, thanks.

All like to be fair because all their favourite actors are in fair colour. British are hated due to their behaviour towards India. One can like a person who is good hearted irrespective of... More

men want to assess others before committing, skin color is one of the visible signs to make guess. The fact that white skin has ruled the globe gives higher weightage to the outward sign if Black had ruled the globe and achieved material success , black skin would have been valued higher
