Was anyone a Small Arms/ Artilery repairmen while they were in the service?
I'm in the process of joining the army and would like some firsthand experience on this position. I have always been very interested in working with and customizing firearms so I think this would be a good job for me.

I was a Combat Arms Instructor in the Air Force for about 8 years. We are one of the few branches that can tear down and fix any weapon in our inventory at each base. I was a gunner's mate in the Navy. I can tell you that customizing any weapon is essentially a no-no in the military. Swapping broken parts out is one thing, but making changes to the operation, or swapping parts with commercially available ones is frowned upon, unless they can be replaced easily.
