Does anyone know anything about aircraft mechanics?

How much does this pay on average? What's a good college degree to get for it? I'm talking about a fixed wing aircraft powerplant mechanic. Somthing like that. Basicly I wanna know how to go about fixing jet engines.

You don't need a college degree to be an aircraft mechanic, although many of them do have an associates degree in Aviation Maintenance Technology. You DO need to complete an 18 month to 2-year training program (minimum 1900 hours) and pass three written and three oral & practical exams in order to earn an A&P... More

The range on A&P mechanics can vary depending upon where and what you are working on. You can get you A&P a few different ways, one from over experience in a shop and then taking the exam, or you can attend a program like WyoTech (which is a great program, by the way). Jetdoc is correct, except it is min.3000 hrs of training! compare that to the pilot min. of 50hrs! per FAR'S
