Do hospitals hire internally most of the time?
I am a certified phlebotomist and I need a job in a hospital and haven't gotten a response. I was wondering if maybe I should get my foot in the door as a unit secretary or something and then apply internally for phlebotomy openings? I understand I don't want to stay a secretary for too long but I have applied everywhere as a phlebotomist and I have gone two months w/o a job. I need a job.

Each hospital has a different policy, but most post jobs internally first or treat internal candidates preferentially over outside applicants. It is easier to get a position internally, but you also don't want to stay out of your field for too long or is it more difficult to get a position within your own field..

Absolutely not, with our hospital having employees in excess of 1000, there are not enough people Do remember a phlebotomist is an entry level position with only 30 days training and there are many applications for a limited number of jobs.
