Microwave is sparking majorly from inside!! Scary!!?

So lately, our GE (Model#: JE1860SB) Microwave has been sparking from the inside. It's not arching, because it seems that the sparking is coming from the inside of the actual micrwave. There is a metal plate (I believe called the canopy) inside the microwave itself, and the sparks seem to be emitted from behind this sheet. (The sheet is roughly 5 inches by 6 inches.) I can't find out what the job of this metal sheet is, however all I know is that if we put anything in the microwave, we see very bright sparks being emitted from the same metal sheet. It has sparked so much in fact that it is slowly burning the metal part itself. What can I do to fix this?! The microwave, beside that, is in perfect condition, however until we an fix this problem we are left without a microwave! Please help! I can take pictures of exactly what I'm talking about if you are willing to help us out! Thank you!! FYI: the metal part inside the microwave is PART OF THE MICROWAVE. It has always been there ever since we first got it.

I don't think you're supposed to put metal in the microwave... Take the metal sheet out.

I had this same problem on my Kenmore microwave. I found out there was a recall for that same specific problem. On the recall, it warned me not to use the microwave until I get it replace or repaired by the manufacture, because it could be a fire hazard. If you still have a extended warranty on it, then you need to... More

It's a waveguide cover the prevents junk from getting into your emitter and catching on fire. It's not metal. And you can buy squares of it on amazon for 2 to 5 dollars depending on how soon you want it. You will have to cut it down to size though. .. or you could pay premium 10-30 dollars for a pre-cut one... More
