What is biomolecular research? 10 points for best answer!!!!?

What is biomolecular research? I'm doing a career essay on a book that i have just read. I have to choose the career based on what the main character's career is, and I never really found it in the book but on the inside flap it says that the man is a "ob/gyn and biomolecular researcher" and i have no idea what this means. I tried looking it up but i couldnt find any information. Can someone please help me? Thanks to the first answer, i now know that this is a very broad subject. The book that i am reading, however, is "Mutation" by Robin Cook. In this book, a man somehow mutates his s***m and his wife's eggs before they are given to their surrogate mother. He knew that after he did this,, his son would either die or become a complete genius. So over the course of the book (the son doesnt die and he is a genius), the son secretly creates his own lab using the lab equipment from his father's lab and people along the way figure out about his lab, so he decides to kill them. But anyways, the son made many more advances in the field of biotechnology than anyone ever had before and stuff. But in the book, the father works with the DNA of many things, if this helps at all for the job. please help me im so frustrated!!! he worked with the DNA of people and other animals in order to learn about the mutation of his and his wife's s***m and eggs
