What is the right amount to claim on your taxes?

I am married with 4 kids. I work a second job part time, when I got my check today I noticed they did not take any state or federal out. It is my first check there, how many should I claim as dependants? I live in NY.

You should generally claim only the exemptions you can claim. Most of the States have it in written law. If you or your husband does not have a business, where you can safely take more exemptions if you have a business loss, you should do a "one on one". It depends on what you want. If you want a little more money each paycheck claim as many dependents as you will have on your tax return. If you want to play it safe and maybe have a refund claim 0
