Way isn't Romney way out ahead of McCain?

Romney is the conservative known to reduce taxes as a governor. He obviously knows how the economy works and how to balance a budget. He has ideas to reform health care (not create universal health care) and improve quality of education, nationwide.
He is also stricter against illegal immigration. Meanwhile, McCain was a co-author of the amnesty bill.
On top of that, conservatives must be under the impression that military experience doesn't matter. Why? They think Bush is an excellent commander-in-chief, and he has never had military experience. So, McCain's military experience shouldn't even matter to them if they're wondering which candidate would make a better commander-in-chief.

So, I ask this as a democrat, why isn't Romney way out ahead of McCain? It seems only logical to this democrat that he should be.
ya_staff_sux- No, I will be voting for Romney if it comes down to Hillary vs Romney. If it is Hillary vs McCain, I'll vote for who I hate less. McCain, I suppose.......
And in my question, I meant "Why", not "Way". I'm sure you understood that though.

Two words: Religious bias.

Now then that is out of the way this is one Christian that is voting for him. His religious beliefs may not totally equate mine but that is OK to. If I wanted a pastor I would find a church.

He is the best man for the job if you look at the stock market, the jobs going down the drain, the housing market and the banks that are imploding.

He knows enough about the Foreign policy but we need a president for America not the world. Hey, this is where I live. I don't live around the world. We need someone to say lets get jobs back to this country.

No one wants i****************s when the economy is bad. When jobs are plentiful people really doesn't care, this is the bottom line. When bankers lose their jobs and need to work in a different field and i****************s already have those jobs we all have problems.

Mitt Romney is not as well known as McCain because he hasn't run for the Presidency 3 or 4 times and been in the Senate for 25 years.

Mitt was too busy having a tremendous record in the private record and then running the State of Massachusetts for 4 yrs.

I hope everyone remembers that McCain called all of us who opposed his amnesty bill Racists.

I hope everyone sees that though McCain is calling for stricter border control, McCain has been a Senator of a border state for about 25 years and his border fence is not complete and his own state is not secure. Either he isn't serious about the issue or he can't get it done.

I'm supporting Mitt Romney!!!

I don't understand it either. Romney is much stronger in the areas that I am interested in, and yet, McCain is in front of him. Something just doesn't sound right.

Maybe Conservatives can see through Romney. He was pro-choice and pro-gay rights when he was running for governor of Mass, then changed his tune to get the Repub nomination for Prez. The guy is a slime-ball who will say whatever it takes to get elected and apparently people in the US are sick of that after 8 years of it.

It is because many Republicans will not vote for him because he is a Mormon. It's sad but that is the simplicity of the matter (and we all know it....even though the dishonest will not admit it).
Answered By: Calvin - 2/2/2008
Because he is not a tue conservative, and voters know this. He doesn't really have conservative convictions. The only true conservative in the race is Mike Huckabee.
Answered By: SaberKnight88 - 2/2/2008
McCain has a better known name. First because he ran for president 8 years ago, second because he campaigned for Bush 4 years ago and third because he is getting endorsements from big names like Arnold.

McCain is more liberal and center of the road. Like with any bell curve, the closer you are to the middle, the more you get in the way of numbers. Look at Ron Paul for comparison. He is way to the right of the bell curve and thus has little support from the center.

Romney unfortunately has done some clear flip flops on his views and in the Republican world, that is a very "liberal" or "Democrat" thing to do. Republicans do not like candidates that change their views according to the polls and that is what Romney seems to be doing.

McCain with his cosponsoring an amnesty bill picked up millions of Hispanic votes. Romney with his views lost them. Many people vote on one issue and when you talk to Hispanics the one issue is the immigration issue.

Bush did have military experience. The National Guard is just as much a part of our military as the Reserves and Active duty forces. However, McCain had a ton more on active duty and as a POW. Romney never served a day in his life, Guard, Reserve, or Active. And at least today, military experience is considered a "plus."

Lastly, Romney's religion is a major point for some Christians. Some consider Mormons as not being a Christian and call their faith a cult. Some single issue voters see that as the major issue.

My personal hope is RON PAUL will move up a great deal on Super Tuesday. He is the only Republican who is a true conservative and has not changed his views to gain votes. However if he does not get the nomination, I will have to decide who of the two candidates I will vote for. But probably the Republicans. I do not like Hillary or Obama. They are both way to liberal for me.

Because a lot of primary voters are scared senseless of losing the general election.

They think to themselves, "Oh, I love Romney. I agree with him on practically everything. But if he's the nominee, then he could lose to Hillary Clinton, and I can't let that happen, so I'm going to vote for someone else."

"Electability" is about the dumbest reason to pick a candidate, or to not pick one. If everyone voted their conscience, then Romney would already be the frontrunner, likely uncontested in the Republican primaries, and polls would show that he has as good a chance as any candidate of winning in November.

Vote for Romney twice: once in the primaries, and again in the election. That's the formula for winning the White House.

I am a Dem. I like Romney over McCain but don't like either. I think the republicans made a mistake by not supporting Thompson. At least he is likable.

The news media leads us like sheep. Americans are really dumb. most Americans no nothing or very little about who they vote for. They just vote for who everyone else is. that's why we are in such bad shape. Do your research before you vote don't be a bunch of sheep.
Answered By: lone wolfe - 2/2/2008
Actually what scares me the most about Romney is that he could potentially be a big business crony contributing to the billions upon billions of dollars that corporate interests have robbed the American tax payers into endless debt.

I'm sorry but pork barrel politics is not what I consider a true conservativism. A true conservative is not only against big government but big business making government even bigger on their behalf.

John McCain understands the problem of pork barrel politics, war time profiteering, and how corporations can swing campaigns with their monetary powers. Let's think about this so as not to confuse conservative values with to put it simply, greed.

Answered By: Cee T - 2/2/2008
Romney has a record of buying companies and breaking them up, causing people to lose their jobs. He has also flip-flopped many times, which reaks of opportunism. Now that he has decided to run for president he changed his views to support a more conservative agenda. His Mormonism is a big reason as well. You can at least respect McCain for his Vietnam service record, and he seems more likable to me.
Answered By: ff - 2/2/2008
Part of the problem is that the media is doing everything they can to promote the weaker of the 2 frontrunners in the Republican race. If McCain wins the nomination, it's an almost certainty that whichever democrat wins the nomination will be our next President. The majority of the media isn't even telling anyone about the fact that ROMNEY won the Maine Caucuses today by over 30?f the votes. If McCain had been the winner instead of coming in THIRD, it would have been all over the news.

So today I went in for an interview and I was going in for the 2nd interview by the head chief executive. now this is where it got weird, so she asked me about my previous jobs and said how much she liked that product over that product. then she started talking about her daughter? an her divorce ...then how she didn't finish college because she was making more money doing what she did for this company ... then she talked about how her teenage daughter is a handful... I just played it cool thinking she was using some sort of psychology thing to trick me into saying something stupid. the interview ended and she seemed happy an I was escorted to the door... now I'm freaking confused? is this normal behavior for an executive? like it felt like she was going to burst into tears at one point and tell me her life problems... is this normal? was she trying to see how I react or something?

Basically- no degree, although I have tried completing one in the past and stopped because of physical and mental health issues which were overwhelming to deal with along with going to classes full time. I'm not stupid and I am quite articulate. I am 23 and have only worked for about two years retail in high school and stopped working to go to university. I worked a few months in 2010 retail after I dropped out but it was only a seasonal position, and the only reason why I have not been able to constantly work is because of mental health issues. I had also tried going back to community college during my free time since i left university in 2008/9 and I had panic attacks while in community college, which made my anxiety worse from then on. Well recently I met a good doctor and he prescribed me some meds that are stabilizing my moods and I feel the best I've felt in years, and I'm ready to work. Thing is, I don't know how to get a job now since I've spent literally years being depressed and anxious doing nothing. I don't really have anything to put on my resume, and I never finished my AA degree either. All I've done is cashiering and although I do the job well and I get promoted easily when I do these jobs because I'm a hard worker and I try to go above and beyond what they ask of me,which is the attitude I have no matter what kind of work I'm doing as long as I'm getting paid. But I hate cashiering because it's too easy and I want a job that is more interesting. Any suggestions for me on how to get a job that is NOT Retail with the type of background I have right now? I also realize I have to go to college to get certain types of jobs, I am talking about what I can do right here right now.

Recently I have overlooked for a project at work and I am unable to accept it why? I am hard working, dedicated, maintain a very professional decorum, very cordial with my colleagues and bosses, give respect to one and all. Still people who take the p***, argue with managers, gossip mongers have been selected for some very responsible positions at work. I seriously can't get my head around it why, why unprofessional people who have no work ethics being selected over me, whereas I have a track record of excellent performance and never shy away from any work my manager ask me to do? I am at my lowest point and not getting hold of my manager to ask the question why not me, why them who can't even bother? I am feeling like a complete loser, giving years to this place, building my performance, trust and this is how I get rewarded. Why my life is so shit, anything I wish for turns to dust?

So I have a nice white button up shirt, business skirt and pants, and a suit jacket. I'm applying for a software development job and I'm very short and can look young so I'm trying to look adult, yet professional. I'm also attractive so I'm trying not to look too sexy. For the career fair I'm thinking of wearing just my nice shirt and a skirt with low heels. My reasoning being it's approachable and attractive without going overboard since the career fair hosts are mostly younger male recent grads. I want to be remembered but not intimidating. For my interviews I was thinking pants, suit jacket (power suit). My reasoning being it'll be older execs and HR people (mostly women) so less sexy with the pants but more powerful with the suit jacket. What do you think?!

I am in the process of planning my own wedding and I am having a fantastic time doing so. I have always enjoyed planning things: group vacations for my friends and I, road trips, etc... I could be described as a slight control freak and I am a perfectionist. I know I would exceed, and enjoy my career, if I were to make this a possibility. How do I do it? How do I get my name out there? How much do event planners charge for their services? I have a lot of questions, and hope that people who are self employed would be able to give me some pointers on getting my business up and running. Thank You in advance for your time and help.
