What can I expect from the National Guard and why is it so great?
My boyfriend is enlisting in the Guard next week and I'm very nervous. I have no idea why the National Guard is the best choice for him, or if it even is. Does the guard really take care of you financially? And why are there chances of his deployment if he's supposed to protect our land? Also, he wants to get a mechanic job and I don't think that's such a great idea. Opinions on that?

Don't expect much and it isn't so great. Your boy will get a paycheck for about $150 to start out with for the weekend. I wouldn't count on the guard supporting you. His chance of deployment is the same for any other branch. Mechanics are very much needed in the civilian world along witht the military. Besides, most... More
