Bankruptcy & Employment Question?

I filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy at the beginning of this month and last week I had an interview with a bank for a Universal Banker position. On Friday they called me and offered me the job and my salary and I accepted it. She said that they were going to do a background & employment check this week and I am supposed to start March 3. She did not say anything about doing a credit check, but can they take back their offer if they do see that I have filed for bankruptcy???

some companies make offers contingent on background checks and some companies do credit checks as well....not fair IMO, but they consider people with bad credit to have a potential for thievery. they could reneg on the job offer i think....wait and see is the best advice for now...

I'm pretty sure they're not allowed to make decisions based on your credit. Just so long as you have never committed any crime that involves stealing (dishonesty) you should be fine.

I don't think so. If you have no criminal history you will be OK. You can tell them that I said that.

Why would any suitable employer so a credit check on you? Did you sign anything to agree to waive your privacy rights?

Every company is going to do a credit check. I would think as a bank I would assume it. I would just be upfront with them. Call the company on Monday and tell them about your situation. This happened to me as well and straight up in the interview I told them that if they were going to do a credit check they might find... More
