What are some simple things I can do or ways I can prevent accidentally downloading cookies or viruses?

We have a Gateway with Windows 98 and it's pretty old, so it's hard to find programs that are compatible with it that would block viruses. My mom says that even voting on polls that are on certain websites may save cookies to your computer. How do you prevent that?

Cookies aren't inherently bad. They help you stay logged in when you visit Web sites, for example. But you can clear all of the cookies when you close your browser if you'd like. Just use Firefox and set it to do that... More

I wouldn't try to avoid cookies, many sites require cookies to keep you logged on, etc. One way to delete cookies after you're done with them, and avoid viruses is to download FireFox ( More
