How long can I stay on H1-B status after I g******d off?

I recently transfered my original H1-B to a new housing industry company and 6 months later they are going to lay me off. I have 18 months left on my visa validity. The company will withdraw the application at the end of March. How long can I stay in the US to job hunt? I'm getting conflicting information - some say I will be illegal after 30 days and others say 180 days. Does anyone have verifiable info?

The law sates you have to maintain your status except for vacations, holidays, sick leave, etc. There is no grace period. I do believe the government will allow you a "reasonable" amount of time to depart the country but by law its 0.
