Is it ethical to decline a written job offer after it was accepted ?

I accepted a written job offer that is contingent upon a 2 week background check, drug test, education & job history verfication; Would it be ethical to decline the offer during this verification process if a better offer is received ?

You are "at will employee". You can leave, anytime.

Of course it would! You didn't sign a legal document. It happens all of the time.

It would be better for you to change your mind now than go on into a job that you really don't want. Plus, you don't want to waste their time or yours if this is really not what you want. Bottom line is you have to do what is best for you. So, if this isn't the job for you, go ahead and let them know. Good luck!

Just say you got a better job... please don't do it in the fear of past deeds.
