What is a research and development job?

i am in college and am switching my major to history...ive been worried i wont be able to find a job out of college and have been looking at open jobs in corporations to see if i would be qualified for them. There are a lot of research and development jobs for companies and it sounds like i would be qualified because of all the research needed for a history major. What exactly is this career? also how is the pay?..if you know..thanks

R&D is mainly a job for someone with a science major. Look into the job qualifications list, it should specify what they are looking for.
