Are there still slaves in the US?

Did I miss something? I keep hearing Obama supporters in here talking about slavery and how we need to move forward... What else should be done to "move forward"? It's been several generations ago. Blacks can now go to any college, join any club, and go anywhere that anyone else can. There are black doctors, lawyers, CEO's, politicians, millionaires, etc. Blacks have the same opportunities, if not more due to Affirmative Action, than whites have. What the heck else is supposed to be done? Be specific.

There are still some slaves. People smuggle hispanics in from south of the border and make them work in sweat shops. I actually just saw an article in Time magazine or something like that about slavery. It seems that there are more slaves around the world today, then back when blacks were still slaves in the 1800's... More

Yes there are still slaves in the US, they live in prison. The prison industrial complex has been selling prison labor to private contractors for years. Not racial slavery, colorblind slavery, where all you have to do is be in prison.

Yes. There are prostitution rings that import young women from various parts of the world, hold them prisoner, proffit from the sale of thier services, and even buy-and-sell them. It's not chattel slavery, and not based on race, but it fits a reasonable defintion of 'slavery.'

Blacks have more rights than whites. If White Americans started something like the NAACP, we would be called racist. But the blacks have one, do we say anything about it? NO because we cant, because its racist to not allow it.

yes the working poor that barley make enough to pay rent, utilities, and feed themselves. then you can consider your kids a slave labor lol to Craig; prisoners live better than the working poor, the cost to house a prisoner is more than some people make in a year

Unfortnuately, there still are two forms of slavery alive and well here; sex slavery and illegal immigration. There is no longer legal slavery. Blacks are not slaves except to the government through welfare dependancy. What is left to do is to change the minds and attitudes of individuals who still have racism in their... More

Human trafficking is a big problem. USA authorities say about 400,000 people a year are " sold' into prostitution or sweat shops ... mostly young women who were promised good jobs in the USA. Because they are young, and far from family and don't speak the language, they don't know how to escape. They are often... More

Yes, to many Obama supporters, slavery still exists. Michelle Obama seems to think slavery still exists, since every speech she gives is about how unfair life is (gee, it must be real tough going to Ivy League schools and making hundreds of thousands of dollars as a corp. executive). Also, the Obamas seem to think... More
