Labor unions question?

I am positive I will be offered a position tomorrow for a company that is a labor union, haven't spoke to anyone yet about that kind of stuff, but they gave us a list of different things you get discounts on like certain car discounts, electronics, travel, etc. Are those some of the perks of belonging to a union? Also the 80/20 for dental, $10 co-pay for all Dr. visit, 100% free presciptions and vision services, free hospitalizations, etc. Are those perks as well b/c it is only a part-time position. It was loud when the tour guide was talking today, but she said something about $9 something being taken out of your check a week, not sure if that was for union dues or the benefits. Is there any cons to belonging to a union?
