i want to be a secondar ed. history teacher. jobs are definitely limited so i want to get my foot in the door?

now since i'm a freshman in college and have some time to gain experience. what's the best way to gain experience and to make myself look better than the other college graduates who want to be teachers?

Get a multiple subject credential as well. You will be more marketable. You never know where it will lead. I have both a history and a multiple subject credential. SUBSTITUTE TEACHING IS A GOOD WAY TO GET YOUR CLASSROOM EXPERIENCE AND BECOME FAMILIAR WITH THE SCHOOLS AND DISTRICTS. YOU CAN ALSO LOOK INTO INTO AMERICORP. I HAD ALOT OF CLASSMATES IN THAT PROGRAM. Find out if your college ed program offers tutoring to school students (even elementary kids would work). Or find out if there's an after-school program in the community that you can volunteer with.
