Taxes. Economy. Those are what really matter right now. I really can't handle my taxes almost doubling under Obama or Hillary.

Let me paraphrase Lee Iacocca, from his new book:
"On September 11, 2001, we needed a strong leader more than any other time in our history. We needed a steady hand to guide us out of the ashes. A Hell of a Mess, so here's where we stand: We're immersed in a bloody war with no plan for winning and no plan for leaving. We're running the biggest deficit in the history of the country. We're losing the manufacturing edge to Asia , while our once-great companies are getting slaughtered by health care costs. Gas prices are skyrocketing, and nobody in power has a coherent energy policy. Our schools are in trouble. Our borders are like sieves. The middle class is being squeezed every which way These are times that cry out for leadership."

The three most important issues facing the candidates are:
How can I win the election?
What can I lie about without getting caught?
What can I say that will make people think I'm great without actually meaning anything?
The issues that ought to be are:
How can we mitigate the incredible screwup Bush made of the Iraq war?
How can we get people to start thinking for themselves and quit relying on the government for everything?
How can we sell our products and services for the most money while buying the products and services of other countries for the least money?

War, Economy and Health care

I believe the issues have remained fairly static. The economy or the war are the biggest ones in my opinion. Health care and illegal immigration are also important.
I don't really care if someone drinks beer or has a shot of alcohol or if they're elitist or black, white, purple, gay or straight, old or young. I want someone who will seriously address these issues and who has the education and experience to do the right thing.
In my mind, that's Ron Paul.
He's an economic scholar who has served on the monetary policy committee in Congress. He would change our foreign policy and cut government waste so you could keep your entire paycheck. No income tax. There are plenty of other taxes to cover necessities.
He believes in the Constitution and wants to go back to the non-interventionist foreign policy our Founding Fathers dictated. This means we should be a friend to all countries, trade with all countries but stay out of their politics. This means our troops come home.
He's a physician and a former U.S. Air Force flight surgeon. He understands health care better than any other candidate. He knows that it is vital to fix the system but to keep care between doctor and patient.
He would welcome immigrants who come in legally - who are good for America and are eager to learn English. But he would stop subsidizing illegal immigration and work to end birth right citizenship (Dani makes a good point. We need to stop the reason illegals come to the U.S., not just build a fence).
Vote Ron Paul 2008. Vote Common Sense.

There are so many important issues and it's impossible to cover them all in one week. That's why it changes every week.
What's important to me is:
Keeping America a soveriegn nation
Keeping Americans safe from terrorists
Keeping the government out of my life as much as possible.
And those three reasons are the beginning of a very long list of reasons, why I will NOT vote for Obama or Clinton.

No, Happy Hunter should not be # 44.
The Economy is foremost, but Immigration is still right up there. Since 2001, 70 tunnels have been discovered along the US border... just a few days ago, another one used by smugglers was discovered near San Diego. If they are going to build that wall, they better sink steel fifty feet down... and I'm not even certain that would help.

1. Bring the jobs back to America. That takes care of some of the other issues, ie: more Americans will then have health insurance, more Americans paying taxes, less Americans relying on the government and social security.
2. Illegal immigration, it is a huge strain on all of us citizens.
3. Less government interference in our personal lives.

HONESTY
Jobs --.Many jobs have been lost due to illegal immigration issues.
Education--throwing money into a system where educators teach their political/social ideology, present theories as facts and subscribe to the new 3 "R" (re-educate,recycle and demand rebates from the government or the "rich") should be discussed. Many cities have less than 50 ?raduation rates. Teacher unions want to be viewed a professionals yet resist every effort to validate or certify that they have the knowledge to actually teach a subject. tenure should be abolished.
OIL-- and the "false" ideas that the "rich" oil barons ,weathy should be forced to support ....The "rich" already pay most taxes while many never pay even a dollar.
Open up oil drilling ..did u know that it costs ~46 $ to produce 1 oil barrel from coal or shale...we imported oil because it WAS cheaper ..now its not.
NO-->Health care ...(providing gov funded insurance does nothing except raise taxes --a projected shortage of MD's, healthcare professionals coupled with an insurance "plan" governed by a federal "fee schedule" will NOT GUARANTEE ACCESS !!Medicare,Medicaid patients already have trouble finding a DR that will accept them as a new patient because the government takes too long to pay the low ball allowable charge.) Hospitals physicians must be able to recover their costs which DUE to the vast #'s of illegals, and folks who delusionally believe that buying what they desire (cars, ipod, xbox, plasma tv, vacations) is better than saving for when they WILL need medical assistance.
FOOD.is only an issue because special interests use "studies/reports" which may not even be scientifically valid, or are tweaked by their funded "researchers". to produce laws/mandates that add profits to their interests. If it sounds good somebody will demand that it be forced into the system
ETHANOL--Drop the ethanol funding until the real scientists work out a system that does not cost more energry to produce or require absurd (90?land usage for corn or have unintended environmental consequences. Why is the gov funding (xxmillions)private start-up projects ?They should let the "investors " fund their own business..are we a capitalistic society or a government funded economy?
ILLEGAL ALIENS...No society can support millions of squatters who demand medical, housing, assistance aid programs ,The country 's resources (energy grid, water, waste, wear and tear on roads, extra trash, etc ) are being used by people who have no legal right to reside in the US. California could not survive one day without Fed money so why should the nation be forced to support a state that leeches of the nation?
