How to write a convincing letter to the director of student & registrations. I want to drop a class?

I am past the deadline to drop a class, but I was told if I want to drop a class past the deadline that I would need to send him a letter. I need help in convincing the director to drop my class. Should I be honest or should I lie, the truth is I am struggling the work is too difficult. Or should I make up a bogus story about be sick or something?

Depends on the school and field. I am a business marketing major and I have to drop a class because of a medical reason and I have to show proof of documentation. Just be honest.
