How do you read? What (scripturally) IS Christ's sacrifice and how does it function to purchase salvation?

I believe that the answers to this question will do much to clear the air over whether Jehovah's Witnesses "believe in Jesus" and whether they are Christians. (we do and we are) I have seldom, if ever, in my 31 years of public Christian ministry, as one of Jehovah's Witnesses, found a mainstream christian, who understood, scripturally, just exactly WHAT Christ's sacrifice really was and HOW it works (functions) to buy our salvation. (PERHAPS memory fails me..) WHY precisely is THAT the thing which was needed? THIS issue was pivitol in my decision to change my associations (from Baptist to Jehovah's Witnessses). Nothing could be more important and I believe, revealing, than the answers to this particular point. I'll let a few answers accrue & then perhaps we will see if a pattern develops. I wonder: What scriptures will you cite? How are they explained? What reasons, for this gift, are even SEEN by those who claim we don't believe in Jesus? How do YOU READ? OK, so Sunday morning wasn't a good time to post this, Huh?! Thought at lunch; should have phrased question to focus on "the Ransom" what it is and how it works... I'm overwhelmed at the QUALITY and lack of QUANTITY... I will grant "best answer" late tonight... but... I'm surprised that there are not really any "mainstream christians" contributing... one last chance... The point, of course, as has been noted by all three answers so far, is that the sacrifice needed to be EQUAL to ADAM (as opposed to EQUAL to GOD) one last chance for a mainstream answer... I'm begining to think it's they who do not believe in Christ! ; )

This is an excellent question and one that deserves our attention. And the answer given in the scriptures really goes to the heart of the matter. This is a tiny bit long, but for those who want to know the depth of the ransom sacrifice, or feel that it was merely to save humans, it may well be worth the read... More

What did Adam have the Jesus did not have? Adam was a perfect man. Jesus was a perfect man. Adam broke the law. "of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, Thou shalt not eat of it. For in the day you eat of it you will die." Gen 2:17. Well all know what happened. So, as the scriptures point out all have sin because of... More
