Is it professional to quit my consulting job and start working for a client?

I want to leave my position as a consultant because my company is a sweat shop. One of our clients has an opening that's perfect for me but I'm afraid of it being frowned upon in the industry to quit and start working for a client in the SF Bay Area. Anyone have insight? Oh and I'm in healthcare consulting so my clients are pharma, medical device, and clinical diagnostic manufacturers.

I don't see why it would be a problem. It's your life. You gotta do what's best for you. I don't know what industry you're in, but I can't imagine any industry frowning upon you for grabbing a good opportunity.

You did not mention your industry...but what it comes down to is as long as you are not creating a major breach of employment and you will be happier in the new position, you should give it a try. Everyone has a right to change jobs and take a chance at bettering themselves.
