How much influence does the HR manager have over hiring?
I had a very good interview with the HR manager at a company, but I have not heard from the head of either department that she was wanting me to meet with. Does it take longer for larger companies? I am started to get discouraged, I followed up with her WED. and she said she was hoping to hear something from them that day, but today is friday and I still have not heard anything. Would she as an HR manager have influence over me being hired?

In companies that have a hiring process set up like that, the HR manager is supposed to screen all of the applicants who meet the minimum requirements for the job and to see what kind of person you are. The decision to hire will be made by the supervisor/dept head where you will work. The HR person is just a facilitator of the process.
