Why do we tend to laugh when we hear about veteran players returning to a former team?

I think of Trent Green, Gus Frerotte, Muhsin Muhammad, Warrick Dunn, Marty Booker and Brian Griese off the bat. The mention of these names returning to their former teams does not pass the laugh test for me.

It is odd to see a once cast off player come back into the fold. Human nature I guess.
