Is it too late to stop Global Warming?

My brother says it's too late because 3/4 of all the ice on Earth is gone and all of the Carbon Dioxide is already in our air. I'm just really curious and wonder is it too late. Thanks!

That would be a convenient excuse to do nothing.

Of course it is not too late.

Have some hope by being part of the solution.

Here is a list of which many of these you can do right away with little to no cost and often actually save you money as well as the environment grief.

1. Reduce, Reuse Recycle (Ever notice reduce comes first?)

2. If you chose to own a vehicle own a higher efficient one like a hybrid.

3. Live downtown & drive only when necessary.

4. Give to various environmental charities (Union of concerned Scientists, Nature Conservancy, and the Sierra Club).

5. Go Vegan. Probably one of the greatest positive impacts an individual can have on behalf of the environment. Meat production is more energy intensive, and creates massive amounts of methane (23x's more powerful than CO2), as well as taking up to 16 pounds of grain just to obtain one pound of beef.

6. Buy local goods. Being a locovore is one of the keys to helping the environment. On average our food is shipped an average of 1600 miles. I buy at the local co-ops and farmers markets. I also buy local woods, fragrance sprays, clothing and more. Whatever I can find that is of decent quality and price I give priority over non-local.

7. Gardening: I have planted many bushes trees and flowers over the last few years. I also have a food garden that brings the idea of local and sustainability to a whole new level.

8. Compost: Saves loads on trash and its transportation. As a bonus I need not buy fertilizers which are often petroleum based and I also save on not having to buy and ship in extra dirt.

9. Travel Less: Especially buy plane which literally releases tones of CO2 per passenger per trip.

10. Promote Awareness: We can't do this alone. Even a minority of mindlessly acting people can devastate the world’s environment. Without larger awareness and unity at best we are only slowing down the evitable.

11. Write elected officials to create green laws. As always hand written and delivered correspondence yields the greatest response besides a personal meeting.

12. Put CFL's or LED's throughout your whole house. These not only will this reduce your lighting expenditure by over 2/3rds but will also save you exponentially in monetary expense.

13. Use solar and crank flashlights: They save me money and the environment in energy as well as the embodied energy of batteries.

14. Use tote bags. America uses over 380 billion bags a year that will not decompose in the landfills. It simply takes keeping a few bags in your car to help you get in the habit. For me it has become engrained and is no extra effort at all.

15. Drink filtered not bottled water which takes petroleum transformative energy for each bottle you drink and through away.

16. Throw away a little as possible: I often find uses of people who want things in which many would through away out of either naivety or sheer laziness. My girlfriend had a broken wooden futon frame. Instead of simply tossing it I attached some of the short leftover wood pieces I had from another job to the futon frame and made a compost bin for my yard.

17. Buy hemp products. It grows more prolifically than cotton, is stronger for making fabric, paper, and particle board and it last longer, requiring no pesticides.

18. Buy recycled and or reclaimed goods such as toilet paper, reclaimed materials for shoes, used clothing and construction materials, etc.

19. Add extra insulation to you house.

20. Walk or bike where possible; Or if you must take public transportation.

21. Use cloth napkins and handkerchiefs instead of paper. Just save of enough and wash them all at once and then simply reuse them again.

22. White drapes in the summer and dark ones in the winter can help you to retain or repel heat.

23. Slow down: You can increase your gas mileage over 30?y just slowing down from 75 to 55 mph. This is even better than filling up your tires, getting a more efficient car, etc, tough you should think about those options as well.

GLOBAL WARMING IS JACKED UP!

It has NO and I repeat NO truth to it at all.
It is a political scheme

Here is an outline for a 30 minute speech I delivered

I. For a long time people have been looking through glasses that have foggy lenses of deception regarding global warming. In the next couple of minutes I intend to show you a more accurate eye chart and update your prescription.

A. Reasons for listening to my speech are very simple. One of the main reasons is that Global Warming is nothing to waste your time on. If it so important to the environment, then we would have done something for it by now. Another reason that you should listen is that this could be a life changing speech that greatly effects every moment of your life from here on out.

I am 100?ccurate in reporting my information. I have done the research necessary to ensure that you are getting nothing but hard core facts. For the past several weeks of my life has been dedicated to finding out information for my speech topic. Nobody knows as much credible information on this topic as I do.

C. My point for this speech is to try and persuade you to see the light at the end of the dirty tunnel of humanities’ lies.

II. Global Warming is the most debatable topic that was probably ever around. You need to know this information. If you don’t educate yourself properly on this topic you will live the rest of your life in fear of something that doesn’t exist.

A. Global Warming is a natural cycle. Everything about it is natural. Carbon dioxide levels vary throughout time. Humans can make little or no impact on the environment.

1. Take a look at this chart taken from an online internet poll. What do you notice from this? There is a close tie between adults that believe in Global Warming and some that don’t. As you can see the charts are pretty close. There is about one person who doesn’t believe in Global Warming to two people who do. This means that only 60?f the world believes in global warming. My goal by the end of this speech is to have the 60?e persuaded that they are not believing in the accurate thing. With the following facts, I am 100?ure that this goal is possible and will be achieved.

2. Al Gore stated this quote in his movie “…The 10 hottest years ever recorded were within 15 years of today.” Now this point is valid and true, but we have not been measuring the temperature or anything since the early nineteen hundreds. Can we go down and see how the polar ice caps were doing in the early 1800’s? We can not do that because temperature was not recorded. You may say that they guessed using carbon dioxide levels, but whose to say that they are right? I heard that scientific measures were not always accurate because they took a hundred year old log and did some carbon 14 testing on it. Scientists thought that it was thousands of years old. It was later proved to be younger after more tests were ran. Whose to say that our method of discovering weather is right? We have been measuring temperature for only a short period of time. Earth right now is in a heating process. Thousands of years ago we were cooling which is when we had an Ice Age. Now we are doing the opposite and are starting to warm up before cooling again. Look at this political cartoon. What is one thing that you notice? I notice it being freezing then gradually getting warmer. As my next point is about to prove, we have no effect on the environment no matter what we do.

3. In 1990 a volcano in the Philippines erupted violently. It was by far one of the biggest explosions of the century. We all have read about how volcanoes let off carbon dioxide, but did you know this… When the volcano erupted, it put more carbon dioxide in the air than all of humanity has ever produced…. More than humans have made since the creation of time. All in just a matter of hours. Look at this picture. See all of this carbon dioxide being put into the air? While, with all of this there was no temperature increase or decrease at all… just some carbon dioxide level changes, but nothing major. If volcanoes put off this much carbon dioxide with no effect, then how could we be doing this? When all this happened, then how could you be persuaded that humans who produce fractions of that amount could impact the environment in fractions of the time. Humans if we tried could not severely impact the environment. It is just too big. Even if we are letting some off, plants and other natural recyclers of Carbon Dioxide are just transforming them to oxygen.

4. During World War II, we dropped two nuclear bombs on Japan. We spilled tons of harmful green house gasses into mother nature. This includes radiation, carbon dioxide, and carbon monoxide. After all of that happened, again there was no effect to the environment that was found. Hiroshima has been having radiation problems still, but there is no significant temperature problem. Nothing humans do can severely change our environment. We only occupy about 50?f the globe. The other 50?s the ocean, ice caps, and land that is not suitable for humans. How could two nuclear bombs not have an impact on the environment, but changing a light bulb in your house to fluorescent can save the environment? It is just impossible that we could have an impact.

5. Another point is that if you look in your text book, I promise you that you will find these words… “When Washington was marching his troops, it was bitterly cold outside” Bitterly cold means freezing. I know that they didn’t have supplies but Virginia in the summer (which is when they fought) is warm. As you can see by these charts, it was 106 degrees outside in the summer. This is without humidity too. Now when we look at this chart it shows us that the battle was fought in Yorktown. There isn‘t much of a distance between Yorktown and Richmond, were this was recorded. How was it bitterly cold a few hundred years ago when now it is normal? The conclusion is that it is a natural cycle. The cycle changes every several hundred years. It was cold then, and now it is slowly warming up. We have nothing to do with it. This is perfectly natural for our environment to do. We would like to believe that humans are the dominate species. Have we ever thought to wonder if what we believe in is caused by nature?

6. One of the most important factual information is still on our planet. Greenland is one of the most misunderstood places around. People like to believe that the reason that it got it’s name is because the settlers didn’t want people to move there so they called an icy land Greenland so that settlers would move their instead of Iceland were it really was green.. After I saw a show on the discovery channel, I concluded that it was actually green. When the first settlers went there, they dined on grapes and cows. I don’t think that I am mistaken, but how could a cow live on an icy land with nobody to feed it. Grapes grow in warm environments which is not ice. Greenland fits that exact description. Also as you can see on this picture, there is still some green left in it. All of it was green once, which proves that it once was green and now it is ice because of the natural cycle, it is starting to freeze. Now Greenland is melting to start the process all over again. In a few hundred years, Greenland will begin to freeze.

NOTE TO READER: FOR POINT 67-8 IT MAKES NO SENCE UNLESS POWERPOINT IS VISIBLE… THANKS!

7. Ok… Phoenix is known as a hot dry desert place. You think that it keeps getting hotter and hotter here each summer. Take a look at this display on the screens. As you can see, during the day the sun is radiating energy to a large city… lets call it Phoenix. It does this all day until the sun starts to go down. As you can see now, the buildings are built up with radiation while the desert area barely got any radiation build up. Now it is night and as you can see the buildings are radiating heat forming a heat bubble. Now in Phoenix at night it is around 95 degrees. That is because of the buildings radiating. We are made of concrete and steel so we absorb heat. Take a look over at the desert. See how the temperature there is lower? This is because it is not trapped in the heat bubble of radiation.

8.Many people relate global warming with long citywide droughts. Like in Phoenix, we are in a drought. There are many reasons why this is not caused by us. Have you ever watched the news and heard the following phrase “… and people of Chandler are getting pelted by rain, many individuals are putting up sand bags to protect their homes…?” What this is saying is that small little cities are getting poured on. Look at the power point and see why, The big glob in the center is called Phoenix, Glendale, and Peoria. Ok now imagine that we are in the middle of a storm. The red indicates heavy rain and the yellow indicates moderate rain. As you can see from this animation that I made, the storm is going around Phoenix. We are a giant blob and the storm is just simply avoiding us. Smaller cities like Chandler and Mesa are being pelted by this continuous down pour. So in smaller cities they may say, “We got rained on the most we ever have” and the airport were they measure the amount of rain says there were only a few drops of rain. This proves that we did not cause the drought by carbon dioxide, but we did it by industrializing.

9. Global Warming is also just a political trap. Who are the only ones who want to try and do something about global warming besides tree huggers? Politicians do. When somebody is running for office this makes a better point, I am going to save the world! Who would you rather vote for… Mr. Free Dental Insurance, or Mr. I am Going To Save The Planet From Destruction! The choice is pretty clear. Which, that was Al Gore’s main election motto. They want you to vote for them do they are scamming yo

That's a complicated question.

Which warming cycle are we talking about? The current one, or one of countless ones that will happen in the future?

The only way we can stop global warming is to find a way to regulate the energy we get from the sun. I don't believe we'll be able to do that for hundreds or thousands of years yet, so I think we're out of luck for the current cycle.

Ok first of all
global warming is a myth
it has been happening for the passed thousand years and we cant stop it. second of all, if it were real, than it would not be too late. if we all think green we can stop this.

Well, there will be some consequences but it is possible that we can save ourselves from screwing up the Earth too badly, if we cut way back on greenhouse gas emissions. We may not even have to try, because there is some doubt about whether there are enough fossil fuels left to drive the carbon dioxide levels up too high. Of course, not having fossil fuels (and nothing to replace them) will also cause serious problems.

That is total misinformation. If 3/4 of earths (I'm assuming your brother was talking about freshwater) freshwater is gone (evaporated) that means it is now water vapor. Water vapor is a powerful greenhouse gas and is the most important one in the atmosphere. Most of the atmospheres greenhouse gas is water vapor.

Where I'm going with this is - if 3/4 of the freshwater is evaporated, average global temperatures will rise in a blink of an eye. It will rise atleast 1 degree per 2 years or so.

There is no limit to carbon dioxide being added into the atmosphere. As long as the sun is burning and amino acids forming life or whatever, there will be more CO2.

I have trouble even believing CO2 is a greenhouse gas and everything he said to you is misinformation.

LOL to anyone that says that we did not rapidly speed up the process by for at least another 10 thousand years or so...
People don't be blind by what you watch on t.v.

it's not really 3\4 its more of the lines of 2\5...

But to say that we have time to make a change, probably not. for people only get interested in it when ever something big comes out in the movie, or a million die at one time...
maybe the next Michael Moore movie. lmao if that is the case.....
if it's about GW psyching someone out to finally discharge their ac unit into a pump instead of outside which releases approx 28?f the reason why we are in the states that we are in... cfc (Chlorofluorocarbon) based gases take up to 30 yrs to finally reach the atmosphere because they are a lot of times degressed throughout the suns 8-11 sun cycle that produces it closest solar flare which comes in close contact with the earth and can actaully mash them down. But at the speed the start to arise again, is nearly 4x's that amount, so it actually becomes a basic principle of when will we be overcome by these gases that are still used today in refridgeration of all products... ( R134-A for refregiurater-dors, cars, buildings, so many more etc... lol )

anyone that has a problem with my numbers than just goolge them but you have look hard for the realt trutht in this world, because key figures tend hide most of the things that has potential to cause roblems because they think that we're not possibly, ready for the great change........ i've been looking at the facts hard-core for the past 8 yrs.....

Which is more important: job creation or solving global warming? What are the reasons why some people support the keystone pipeline and other similar initiatives even though they may damage the environment? Why do some people consider environmental protection more important in the long run than creating more economic wealth? How will the resolution of this initiative and others like it affect our lives in the 21st century

In order to address the threat from global warming we need significant greenhouse gas emissions reductions. A lot of people think we need to put a price on carbon emissions to accomplish this. Many also believe this will spur innovation and create 'green jobs'. Fossil fuel technologies are already well developed, but renewable and alternative fuel technologies can continue to develop and become more advanced for a long time. Taking everything into consideration - the climate, environment in general, economy, jobs, etc. - what do you think the best policy solution is for addressing global warming? Does it involve a carbon tax? A cap and trade system? Something else entirely?

Basically- no degree, although I have tried completing one in the past and stopped because of physical and mental health issues which were overwhelming to deal with along with going to classes full time. I'm not stupid and I am quite articulate. I am 23 and have only worked for about two years retail in high school and stopped working to go to university. I worked a few months in 2010 retail after I dropped out but it was only a seasonal position, and the only reason why I have not been able to constantly work is because of mental health issues. I had also tried going back to community college during my free time since i left university in 2008/9 and I had panic attacks while in community college, which made my anxiety worse from then on. Well recently I met a good doctor and he prescribed me some meds that are stabilizing my moods and I feel the best I've felt in years, and I'm ready to work. Thing is, I don't know how to get a job now since I've spent literally years being depressed and anxious doing nothing. I don't really have anything to put on my resume, and I never finished my AA degree either. All I've done is cashiering and although I do the job well and I get promoted easily when I do these jobs because I'm a hard worker and I try to go above and beyond what they ask of me,which is the attitude I have no matter what kind of work I'm doing as long as I'm getting paid. But I hate cashiering because it's too easy and I want a job that is more interesting. Any suggestions for me on how to get a job that is NOT Retail with the type of background I have right now? I also realize I have to go to college to get certain types of jobs, I am talking about what I can do right here right now.

For the career fair I'm thinking of wearing just my nice shirt and a skirt with low heels. My reasoning being it's approachable and attractive without going overboard since the career fair hosts are mostly younger male recent grads. I want to be remembered but not intimidating. For my interviews I was thinking pants, suit jacket (power suit). My reasoning being it'll be older execs and HR people (mostly women) so less sexy with the pants but more powerful with the suit jacket. What do you think?!

My second interview is on Monday and I want to be prepared. It's for an assistant controller position. I've already met with the controller and the hr manager. Monday I will be meeting with the president of the company. How could I prepare myself for Monday's interview? Thanks! Any comments would be great!

I'll be taking Programming HTML in 10th grade (I'm in 9th right now). My school offers Java, C++, Programming HTML, Graphic Communications, Robotics, CAD, and Game Design. I am taking courses not only because I want to fulfill credits, but to also test out some things and see what I like. I'm asking this in Careers because I was wondering what careers involve any of these and if they are good jobs. My cousin got me a little interested in computers because she has her Ph.D from University of Maryland, went to UMBC, taught at Carnegie Mellon, worked at IBM, and currently has a job at Microsoft (she works with human- computer interaction) I was curious, what are some good careers in Computer Science? Are these courses good ones to take to see if I like them? How much can you make in Computer Science careers? None of my decisions for the future are concrete and I do not only look at the money in anything so please, no assumptions unless you know me. I just want to have an idea of what to do and I have plenty of time. I love to help people which is why I am looking into medical careers as well. I'll be taking an AIDS research course in a few years and I'm taking a Child Development course in case I really do wish to be a Psychologist some day (Some other careers I have thought about are Hematologist, Dermatologist, Neurosurgeon, attorney, etc. I really would love to cure my parents who have Sickle Cell and Fibromayalgia but I know how Pharmaceutical Companies are.Treatment makes more than cure) t********s to anyone who can answer and help me out (Point gaming is pretty pointless. Two points vs ten? Which is more?) Thank you! I get good grades. Honor roll, honor student, I study hard and I keep to myself a lot so I have a lot of time to study. I'm cyber schooled because of how awful my old school was (kids bullied me. To the point where I could have died but teachers didn't care because my parents aren't friends with the teachers from high school. So, I just had to suffer. They lied to my parents and eventually, we just couldn't take it anymore. I got sick of defending myself against boys anyway. Thank God I'm into Martial Arts). I have been here for 4 going on 5 years and I love it! Peace and quiet....most of the time. I still live in a small town and the bullying just continues. So I have to be completely alone to escape it. Life will be better when I move to Canada. Also what you do is very interesting! Thank you very much! I can only take HTML this upcoming school year. Then the other courses become available throughout the years. I can't choose whether C++ comes before Java. It's not all available right away. It becomes available grade by grade. I heard people say $70,000 wasn't a good salary before and that really confused me. My cousin makes that much and she traveled to Spain, France, Atlanta and California recently. I think it is all interesting. New tech always did intrigue me and my mother. I'm just dipping a toe in first though. Just in case, when I go to college, my freshman year will be undecided to sit in on some more classes. I'll see what I like, this a lot, Thank you! Oh by the way, the C++ course is actually a C++ AND Java course! It's all in one. That's helpful :)
