Police 'institutionally racist'?

"Currently, [only] seven out of more than 200 officers at assistant chief constable rank and above are from ethnic minorities." Which by my calculation, is 3.5%, and the number of black brits is only 1.9% of the population. So statistically, this officer is talking b******s and is actually Encouraging discrimination, yes? I just thought of that as I posted it - total ethnic minorities in the UK are 7.9%. However, many of these groups are concentrated in similar areas - with many more areas quite homogenous.

I think that you would have been better to have concentrated on criticising the concept of 'proportional representation', because it encourages its twin sister, 'positive discrimination'. That might have quietened at least two of your 'lefty' respondents... More

my bf a policeman. his chief inspector is asian. on his shift there are quite a few officers from different ethnic minorities. when people apply for the police everyone has the same chance of getting in. it's not what colour you are its how good you'll be at the job.

The number of "Black" brits does not include other ethnic groups you d**n fool. Try to get the information regarding the population figures of all minority ethnic groups in the country. When you have ALL the information you can make a judgement and re-post this question.

It would be more revealing if you gave details of 1. People who have been rejected, despite being suitable 2. People who have been accepted although they were unsuitable 3. People who have not wanted to join or be promoted. It is your question that judges people on the grounds of their colour.

Possibly true but I do believe there has been a major change over the past 10 years and things are improving.
