Is It Easy for a Mature-Aged Person to Become a Teacher?

Suppose someone worked in public finance after graduating from university and at age 35 he is feeling stressed out and wants to do something he might enjoy, like teaching. Would it be easy for that person to make a simple career transition into teaching? Will he need to find additional educational qualifications, such as teaching degrees? In Australia there is a shortage of secondary school teachers. What about primary school teachers? Is pay widely different between secondary and primary school teachers? How is the teaching market in general in Australia? Are there lots of jobs or very few jobs?
