Why do some many animal folks --pet Lovers, hate Petsmart?

I was wondering if they have some horror story to tell. I just want to know because I'm currently taking 2 pets there.

Taking 2 pets there... you mean Banfield, the corporation who owns the vet hospitals that're in PetsMart stores?

I personally dislike them because they make their vets recommend a set series of tests for various things, push procedures that don't need to be done (like declawing) and charge stupid rates for a variety of things. I've also heard plenty of bad stories about their care plans and how tough it is to cancel them and to get out of paying stupid fees that don't seem to have much purpose.

Your local non-corporate animal hospital is probably going to be cheaper, less hassle and less turnover in the end. Many Banfield folks are new grads who take the jobs because they do pay fairly well, but then move on to their own practices after they've saved a bit.

Personally, I prefer having a relationship with a vet that's known my animals their whole lives and isn't planning to move on to someplace else in the near future.

As for the stores, I don't like them because they frequently don't seem to have a clue as to how to keep exotic animals. They have snakes and other reptiles that clearly aren't healthy, in inappropriate enclosures that aren't cleaned enough. Not every store is like that, but enough. The national company needs to step up and make some guidelines about that sort of thing.

I'll admit, I didn't read this entire thread/post. Most people talking down on Petsmart groomers upsets me because I am a groomer there. It is not fair to judge the whole corporation's groomers based on one experience you had. You are insulting me, even though you may not think you are, but by saying DO NOT GO TO PETSMART FOR DOG GROOMING, is. I see some of the stuff that goes down in my salon that I am not okay with and I go to my managers about it. If that is not solved I let other management know about it. There is only so muchthat one person can do about anything. I am a d**n good groomer. I care about everyone's pets like they were mine. I would never do anything to anyones pet that I wouldn't do with mine and trust me, I am obsessed with my dog and she means a LOT to me. If you are unsatisfied with your experience you need to let the management of that store know. You might even want to try a different groomer there until you find someone you like and trust. You might even have missed the chance to find a good groomer at the store because one of the other ones ruined it for you. I try my best to follow all of Petsmart's policies even though it may make me behind schedule (like only certain breeds can have cage dryers.) It's funny because the only policy I do break is bringing water into my drawer because of the poor ventilation back there. I'm just tired of everyone saying these horrible things when they could be missing out on a good groomer like me that cares about your pets well being and wants you to have a great experience. Even if it's not at my salon or a Petsmart salon the safety of your pet is important and that is part of the reason Petsmart's salons have windows in which you can watch at least half of the grooming process unlike some other salons where the dog is in the back and you can't see anything. Always ask a lot of questions and remember - Everyone is different, we're all individuals, we all do things
differently, and if one person does something you don't like, you can always make sure they don't groom your dog.

Yes I have a horror story. Quite simply I took my dog to be groomed, she became very ill, no explanation as to how, and then she died. So, yes, I say PetSmart killed my dog. I'll be selling the shirts soon.

The trouble with those stores, as far as the pets they sell, is that they by from large commercial breeders, that are only breeding to have a product to sell, and don't really care about the health of the animal. Most small pet shops either raise the animals that they sell or buy from private breeders. The fish come from pretty much the same distributors, but the way they have the filter systems in the tanks, allows for the water to circulate from tank to tank. Its just a loop system, most of the time. Not to mention the person that's helping you may or may not know what they are doing.
As for grooming they tend to hire people that don't have a lot of experience, and having an audience is not the best thing while your trying to handle a dog that isn't behaving.

I don't like that Petsmart is forcing Banfield on its patrons. I typically get all of my Pet food and necessities at the mom n pop type store near my house(they carry the good food!), but today we went to Petsmart because I needed to get a new cat food dispenser for the cats and while we were there I decided to reload on Frontline. Typically it is behind the counter and they just scan it with the rest of your stuff and you go on you way. NOT anymore... Now they make you go over to the Banfield counter to buy it. So i walk over there, and the girl working the counter seems quite annoyed that I disrupted whatever daydream she was having. They wanted me to fill out like 4 pages of paperwork to "register my pets as patients." You have GOT to be kidding me. I politely declined and went on my way. 1800petmeds had better prices anyway. Another time, we were looking for links for the prong collar, and this woman comes over trying to get us to sign up for Banfield services. I politely told her that I was happy with our family vet and she persisted to try and get me to sign up. It was very annoying.

It just really bugs me that they are pushing this clinic so hard. if I MUST go to a big box pet store, I'll stick with Petco from now on. I'm tired of having Banfield pimped out to me while I am shopping.

Oh, boy....where to start?

Well, I don't like a LOT about that store. First, they almost killed my Great Dane! The idiots. >.< I have a gorgeous black Dane girl. When I wanted to get her photo taken and I was really busy the day of the appointment, I thought I'd just have them bathe her. No biggie, right? *rolls eyes*

Well, I picked her up and she got her photos done. The next day, I noticed that bits of her fur looked kinda funny - all over her body except for her legs and head. I thought nothing of it. I thought maybe she was beginning to shed or something. Well, the next day it was worse, and the day after that I thought there had to something wrong. At closer inspection, I saw that she had open, oozing sores all over!

I took her to the vet and told him about me taking her to Petsmart to get groomed. He checked her out and told me she was very ill with Staph! She was so ill in fact that he was not sure if she would make it. He kept her and treated her for a week. She pulled through but.....what a nightmare. I went back to Petsmart and told them that they had infected my dog with Staph and demanded to know what they did to my dog. The Staph had entered by dogs body through lots of little cuts all over her. It took a lot of pressing and digging to get a true answer out of them. They had used an infected shedding BLADE on her! On a single-coated dog! ARGH! I was steamed to say the least. I seriously chewed them out (grooming shop customers watching). It was very sad that I had to tell them how my dog SHOULD have been groomed and tell them they needed to disinfect their tools between dogs. Yeah, I hate Petsmart.

I know the fish are almost always sick because of their lovely filtering system that goes through all tanks and if you add there fish to your tank - good luck.

The clerks don't know much. I have been there and asked a question to the staff. They look straight at me and tell me a bunch of bologna. I once asked "How big of a tank do I need for this fish?" The lady tells me "One gallon is all you need". I say "But this sign about the fish on the tank says '5 gallons per fish'". "Oh, no. It's okay". *rolls eyes, again* They don't care if they sell you a fish and tell you to put it in inadequate conditions because they know you'll be back when the fish outgrows the tank you bought and dies. I hate dishonest people.

There was one good employee that work at our local Petsmart. I learned to talk to her if I had a question. I knew she knew her stuff. Unfortunately, she quit. I actually saw her at a local dog park one day and we had quite a conversation. She said that the way they do things is to hire one person who knows what they're talking about. Then they tell the other employees to repeat whatever they hear that employee say. She also told me, after I told her about my dog, that their "groomers" are just their regular employees that want more hours. She said they are sent to a two week crash course in grooming and that's it! Let's see, that's 80 hours at most. In California, regular grooming schools require 600 to 800 hours before you can wash or trim a dog. 100 times as much as these Petsmart people get before they are turned loose on your pet.

This same employee also said that, when a sick animal came in from their shipment from the mass breeder, the store management would tell them to just leave the animals in the back and not do anything about it. Duh, I mean they HAVE a vet office right there in the store. This employee said that she would convince the management to let her take the animals home to nurse back to health rather than let them just die in the back room.

This same employee said that the Banfield vets are terrible or don't know anything anyway. Sheesh. That is not the place I want to go anywhere near with my pets.

I have since learned to buy from our local feed stores to get the best quality food, supplies, and meds for much cheaper prices.

So, besides them almost killing my dog and trying to cover up what they did, the employees don't know much, they get their animals from mass breeders who just care about making $$, their vets aren't great, and their animals are very often sick and they don't care.....it's a great store. lol.

I'm looking for a job for my friend. She's 15 years old and really loves dogs. She wants to work at a pet store or pet supply store where she can stock shelves and even work with customers. What are some good pet related jobs offered for her age group? I know that Petco only hires 16 years or older. Thank you!

So today I went in for an interview and I was going in for the 2nd interview by the head chief executive. now this is where it got weird, so she asked me about my previous jobs and said how much she liked that product over that product. then she started talking about her daughter? an her divorce ...then how she didn't finish college because she was making more money doing what she did for this company ... then she talked about how her teenage daughter is a handful... I just played it cool thinking she was using some sort of psychology thing to trick me into saying something stupid. the interview ended and she seemed happy an I was escorted to the door... now I'm freaking confused? is this normal behavior for an executive? like it felt like she was going to burst into tears at one point and tell me her life problems... is this normal? was she trying to see how I react or something?

Basically- no degree, although I have tried completing one in the past and stopped because of physical and mental health issues which were overwhelming to deal with along with going to classes full time. I'm not stupid and I am quite articulate. I am 23 and have only worked for about two years retail in high school and stopped working to go to university. I worked a few months in 2010 retail after I dropped out but it was only a seasonal position, and the only reason why I have not been able to constantly work is because of mental health issues. I had also tried going back to community college during my free time since i left university in 2008/9 and I had panic attacks while in community college, which made my anxiety worse from then on. Well recently I met a good doctor and he prescribed me some meds that are stabilizing my moods and I feel the best I've felt in years, and I'm ready to work. Thing is, I don't know how to get a job now since I've spent literally years being depressed and anxious doing nothing. I don't really have anything to put on my resume, and I never finished my AA degree either. All I've done is cashiering and although I do the job well and I get promoted easily when I do these jobs because I'm a hard worker and I try to go above and beyond what they ask of me,which is the attitude I have no matter what kind of work I'm doing as long as I'm getting paid. But I hate cashiering because it's too easy and I want a job that is more interesting. Any suggestions for me on how to get a job that is NOT Retail with the type of background I have right now? I also realize I have to go to college to get certain types of jobs, I am talking about what I can do right here right now.

Recently I have overlooked for a project at work and I am unable to accept it why? I am hard working, dedicated, maintain a very professional decorum, very cordial with my colleagues and bosses, give respect to one and all. Still people who take the p***, argue with managers, gossip mongers have been selected for some very responsible positions at work. I seriously can't get my head around it why, why unprofessional people who have no work ethics being selected over me, whereas I have a track record of excellent performance and never shy away from any work my manager ask me to do? I am at my lowest point and not getting hold of my manager to ask the question why not me, why them who can't even bother? I am feeling like a complete loser, giving years to this place, building my performance, trust and this is how I get rewarded. Why my life is so shit, anything I wish for turns to dust?

So I have a nice white button up shirt, business skirt and pants, and a suit jacket. I'm applying for a software development job and I'm very short and can look young so I'm trying to look adult, yet professional. I'm also attractive so I'm trying not to look too sexy. For the career fair I'm thinking of wearing just my nice shirt and a skirt with low heels. My reasoning being it's approachable and attractive without going overboard since the career fair hosts are mostly younger male recent grads. I want to be remembered but not intimidating. For my interviews I was thinking pants, suit jacket (power suit). My reasoning being it'll be older execs and HR people (mostly women) so less sexy with the pants but more powerful with the suit jacket. What do you think?!

This next semester i am taking a System Analysis and Design(SADSIGN) and i am getting nervous because even though i am pretty good at logics, i am not that good at coding. But since it is a case study, we will be on group, we will be four i think. Project manager, Analyst, Documentation, and the programmer. I am asking what jobs i can get after graduating I.T. because what if i graduated I.T. and still not that good at coding, i am hoping that there will be a jobs that will require less programming. Like Database manager or in Multimedia or in charge of Network. So is there jobs that doesn't require hardcore programming skills?
