How do you get into retail management?

I am currently a 'retail operative' wanting a bit more from my job. Do you often need a degree to get into management or just promotion? Also is there often age restrictions?

Depends on which retail outlet ultimately, but generally no schooling is required. Just perform your daily duties with a smile and show you're responsible, and most importantly that you care about the retailer. Make your desire to move up the ladder more verbal. Just wait for a promotion or if a job openeing comes along, you should apply for it, especially if you're already with a company because most companies look at existing employees before they consider outsiders for a job position.

You do not need a degree at all if you want to be a manager get a job at big box mart and suck up to the management and act like you do not know anything and you will be a manager in no time.
