how can i get on track to eventually be a professor?

already asked this, but maybe someone will have the answer this time... i'm a freshman at pomona college. being a studio art and media studies double major, i've decided to pursue a career as a professor of media studies (just so you know, media studies is the critical analysis of film, television, print, etc). i'm working very hard in my classes to retain a high GPA, but what else can i do to keep myself on track to eventually work in academia? should i be focusing on research opportunities or trying to get internships in the working world? also, what is the type of education i need in order to apply to be a professor at a four-year school? do i need a PhD, or just a master's degree?
