Is there a decent book scanner to work with paperbacks?
I have more books than is probably healthy, both for fun and reference. I'd like to have access to the fun (of course) and access to searchable forms of the references while I'm not at home, so I'm looking around for a decent scanner to do the job. Anyone know of a good one? I've heard of problems with the PlusTek OpticBook line (mostly crashy software and cheap design), but has anyone done this for their collection and have a recommendation? Thanks!

I do have a PlusTek OpticBook and it works very good; I don't see the problem with it. Please find more comments on http://www.pgdp.net/wiki/Plustek_OpticBook. Contact the closest library archive-- often a college library will have an archive section-- and find out what they use to scan aging books and documents. Even better, see if you can talk to their buyer and get recommendations. Odds are what they're using is more expensive than what you want, but they may have... More
