Not too much is more important than a college degree.
I think you should focus on school and grades.
Im sure that doesn’t make sense to you, but college degrees make the difference between working for Wal-Mart like job, or Lockheed Martin/Texas Instruments/Tektronix/Applied Materials etc.
Wall mart pays $7 per hour, Lockheed pays $70 per hour.
Wall mart makes you punch a clock.
Lockheed just wants you to get your work done when ever you choose to do it. During the day, or night, on Sundays, or do it from home. They will give you a laptop, and pay you for mileage to drive back and forth. Free healthcare, and very low cost for your family. Wall mart wont pay your healthcare, so every doctor visit or prescription will cost you hundreds.
One surgery will make you file for bankruptsy.
Many big employers will buy your house from you ( if you own one), and move you for free so you can work for them.
If you change jobs without a degree, you start over, doesnt matter how many years of experience you have. No degree, means starting at the bottom of the pay scale.
What are you working at a part time job for !, if you are in college, you need to be working on grades. Nothing much else matters. A part time job is noble,
but if it interferes with grades, it is the wrong choice.
I know at 19 this doesn’t sound right to you.
Your parents want you to be successful, and are probably paying a lot of money they cant afford, to try to give you that chance. If you blow it, you may not get another.
This is almost certainly the cause of your Hell. You want to spend time with friends, but your parents see this as hurting your chances in college. You are wasting their and your time as they see it. Hanging out with friends late at night is risky ( for them, ( for you)). They are thinking:
" Help me, HELP ME !, to help you !"
You need to have friends, and to get out of the house from time to time.
Work hard, play hard. But be sure you do work hard.
Your "Job" is school.
If your parents can see that your are working hard at your studies, and getting good grades, all of this turn around.
At 19, you should be very careful of getting mixed up with friends that waste their time smoking weed. It makes you lazy, and you wont study, or want to work or listen to family members telling you stop wasting your and their time and money. You will drop out, or flunk out of school.
To study effectively, you need no distractions. No TV, no video games, no constant interruptions. When you are living on your own, you will still have distractions,
You wont think of these until you are actually presented with the situation but it is true, ( I should wash the clothes, do the dishes, clean, etc) .
No, you should work on your projects, and study until you are too tired. Take a break, and get back to it.
This is why people recommend that you go to the library ( at the college, on campus walking distance). Because when you are there, Ha, there aren’t any TVs, games, or other distractions. You get your work done, you pack your lunch, you take a break, then get back to it, so you can go home, relax, play some games, get some sleep and do it again the next morning.
On the weekend evenings, you can do what ever you want but spend the rest of your time focusing on getting that degree with decent grades. Don’t be distracted by friends that are not interested in learning.
If you hang out with nurses, you get nurse friends, if you hang out with engineers, you get engineer friends, if you hang out with yo-yo's, you get yo-yo friends ( Rocky).
So choose wisely who you spend time with, it matters.
"""...that's the way guys are. They laugh when ya talk dirty. They think you're cute. But after awhile, you get a reputation and that's it. You get no respect. Ya understand? Ya get no respect. They don't remember you, they remember the rep(utation)...You hang out with nice people, you get nice friends, ya understand? You hang out with smart people, you get smart friends. You hang out with yo-yo's, you get yo-yo friends. You see, simple mathematics.
Some people say, that life is short,
no its not, it's long, especially if you make the wrong choices..
May the force be with you. . .
