how can I tell where my sewage drain off pipes are?

I want to install an above ground pool in my new home, but there is a septic tank right where I want to put it, so Im wondering what kind of problems does this cause for me? Also If there are any kind of drainage pipes that I should be worried about if I decide to put the pool somewhere else in the yard. And if there are any pipes etc, how can I find out what directions etc do they run in? Am I going to have to hire a professional specifically for the job? or will a good pool contractor know the answers to these questions? I live in North Carolina, and would be greatful for any links etc leading to any helpful information you can give. Thanks in advance, Cal (Desperate to start swimming!)
