Is it rude to ask how much a car was purchased for?

I was just asked that question yesterday about a car I bought and I didn't answer. I particularly NEVER ask that b/c I feel that it isn't any of my business and I don't see how that helps anyone b/c they're not gonna help me pay my monthly note. Was I wrong to not disclose that information?

Depends on the person. Either they were just being nosey, in which case I wouldn't tell them, or maybe they are interested in a similar car, in which case I would tell them.

I see what you mean... but I think it would depend on why they are asking. I have asked people a few times what they paid, simply because I loved the car and was looking to get one like it - so I wanted to know that price range I was looking at... More

I don't see any reason to keep it secret. People can always get a ball park from researching the net. The person asking may have been interested in purchasing or knows someone that is and the info would be helpful.

Car prices are readily and easily available on the internet... they are no longer a secret... so answering the truth should not be an issue at all.

I think that it is rude to ask, and i think that there is nothing wrong with you not answering. If someone wants to know how much a car costs, they can look it up on kelly blue book.

If you see a car that you really like on TV or in an ad, the first thing you think is the cost. No different for anyone else. They are just curious.
