thinking about becoming a machinist. any advice?
ideas on careerpaths, words of caution, etc? I put this in the auto repair category not because i meant "mechanic" but because i think there are probably the most knowledgable group in this forum.. perhaps many of you have worked as a machinist or CNC programmer or such. thanks for all answers.

It's the second hardest job in America to fill, not to mention it gives you the ability to do major engine work by yourself (assuming you are into automotive stuff). pay starts at like $12-17 an hour on average. I'm studying to become one at the moment.

there is goof money to be made for someone that can mill heads, align bore , balance etc, you could make alot

I have been a machinist for a long time and I still love it.I work for the major manufacture of aircraft engines in the world,machining rotating parts.I have made a very good living doing it.As far as words of caution,put safety first.
