i'm 16 and i'm leaving school this year. i have decided that what ever i do i'm going to do an apprenticeship.I've always wanted to be a social worker. I want to help find housing for people and help them with other financial needs. I was told to do an apprenticeship in health and social care. When went into the training centre i was told that i'll have to work in a residential home; however i don't want to work their for my placement. What shall i do?? can you do an apprenticeship in heath and social care in the council???? please help.

To be a social worker you need a minimum of a BSW (Bachelor degree) and really you will probably want an MSW (masters degree). go to a different training center and see where they place you. Even if it's not the ideal job it's just for training.

to be honest i would go to a sixth form college and try and get a levels. this would give you more qualifications and widen your choices. hope this helps =]

I suspect that training in health and social care only qualifies you to be a care worker, and not a social worker as such who is also involved in decision making.
