Are you able to get a school bus driving job if you can only see out of one eye?

An optimologist once told me that it is very hard, but possible to get your pilot's licence with sight in only one eye. I was wondering if anyone is a school bus driver out there, they could tell me how detailed the vision test is for a bus driver's licence.

Yes, you can get a job driving a bus with vision in only one eye, but you will need to get a waiver from the DMV to do so. I am a one eyed pilot who drove a bus at one time in my lengthy career.

Your depth perception is not good if you have only one eye. To drive a car, you usually have to have extra mirrors. There are lots of mirrors on a school bus, but you have to watch more than the road around you, you also have to watch the children in the bus to keep them safe. Are you sure you want to do this?

School bus drivers must meet requirements for a CDL and possess a medical card. While waivers are issued for regular commercial vehicles, most states aren't willing to for school bus drivers due to the extra demands of the position.
