How to become an effective leader?

I was just promoted as an Audit Manager of a financial service company here in the Philippines, now my concern is, I may not lead my staff effectively. I may not be trusted, or they just force to follow my decision as their superior. What is the best strategy or style to apply to be able to succeed in this role?

Complementing employees work usually increases there motivation. Doing so makes them work harder. When they are working harder, it makes you look batter. Remember, your the leader, don't take any s**t from the lower downs.
