Best airlines to obtain frequent flyer mileage- going to Europe?

If you apply and are approved for a United Airlines Mileage Plus Card, you get something like 25,000 bonus miles and they fly pretty much anywhere you need to go and have one of the largest networks of partners, the Star Alliance which includes BMI and Lufthansa. Then you get miles for purchases and flights.
