No, it is definately not true!
A lot of the minimum height requirements for jobs are being struck down as descriminatory. (see the link)
http://www.aele.org/law/Digests/empl116.... Navy Seal might be different though - even those in top physical shape can't get in. Have you checked what their height requirements are?
For everything else , the only thing that will get in your way is how YOU feel about yourself. Being short in a "tall" society isn't all that easy. I've always had to use a footstool to reach cupboards in my house, and supply shelves in my office. (no big deal) I've never viewed myself as short or limited in anything I do. I have a well paying job that I love, and I manage some musicians (rock & roll band) part time. Nothing holds me back - except me. I'm 5' - it never occurred to me that it had any kind of restriction or limitation.
You certainly can have a high paying job. There isn't a minimum height requirement for most trades, including brain surgery, and definately not for falling in love. You absolutely will get a girlfriend - the right girl will come along. But she will be attracted to you the "whole person" including a positive attitude.
To those of your friends who tell you otherwise - they are talking nonsense. Quit associating with people who say "you can't" instead of "you can". You don't need them in your life.
A positive sense of one's self is the most important key to anybody's success, short or tall, and everything inbetween.
