What is a good way to gain marketing experience for an undergraduate student?

I am currently doing a marketing degree and im looking for a way to gain some experience maybe next summer before i graduate, does anyone know how to go about doing this and what sort of experience employers would look for?

Do you live in the UK? If so approch the Odeon Cinema and ask them about their marketing department. Get a part time in a small company if even it is a company owned by a friend or family member. Once you start to work there make suggestions to them on how to improve their marketing once you have the theory in place take responsibility for implementing the idea.
