Leonidas was a king of Sparta, and one of the sons of King Anaxandridas II of Sparta. He died at the Battle of Thermopylae in August, 480 BC. Leonidas was one of the Kings of Sparta at the time. The other was Leotychidas. They had two kings, one from both of the families said to be descendants of Herakles.
