Recommend good book on how to be a successful manager?

My husband is accepting a management job in his field. He has over 10 years experience supervising and training staff, but has never directly interviewed and hired staff. Does anyone know any good books on how to be a successful manager, what to ask potential new-hires in the interview, and any other good information on management?

I would suggest his first step is to speak to the person who hired him and ask his advice. In most organisations there is an "ethos" that could not be captured from a book aimed at a general readership.
