What type of work is Human Resources? What would it involve doing?

I have just been asked if I would consider taking on some Human Resources work in my current job but am not entirely clear on what that would involve doing. Would it be horrible things like disciplinary actions?

Yes...esintually it puts you in charge of all people related problems. You also get to be incharge of special projects like company picknics and other things.
