Why did McCain choose Palin over Mitt Romney or those regulars?

Was it the growing fury against the U.S. Congress or something else?

Because Romney isn't a female. That's ALL she has over any of the males he was considering. This election is all about swaying women voters... and McCains methods are clear and desperate.

He is really desperate for the Hillary supporters. He realizes Obama has all the momentum, and so needs to try and scavenge all the votes he can get.

Because Palin is a woman, and he thinks he can get women votes. Also Palin is all about the Oil and gas stuff. Just another rich oil person trying to lead the country.

I hate Mitt Romney. He used to be my boss, in a round about way. I work for the State of Massachusetts, so he was my bosses direct boss - believe me, he was clueless! I don't care why he chose who he did, I'm just glad it wasn't Mitt. If he ran the country the way he managed "the big dig", we'd all be screwed.

Mitt Romney turn down the VP after last night, I would really be concern with McCain age and a first term governor possibly being president

I think that it's blatantly a ploy to attract Hillary's female supporters. However, McC now runs the risk that those supporters will feel that McC was pandering to them, and this whole thing may backfire.

I am a conservative moderate and I didn't like Romney. He doesn't speak to the average American. I'm pleased with McCain's decision to bring in a true Washington outsider.

Doesn't McCain know the Rednecks he panders to don't like women in power?

it was just plain smart. He marries a beautiful, rich, smart woman, and learned that a beautiful and smart woman can help a man go far. even become president of the USA. OBAMA WILL LOSE BADLY.

Im glad he didnt choose Romney. I find it a little humorous and a little disturbing how all the candidates bad mouth each other and say "So and so isnt ready to be president" only to turn around and change their story once that person gets the ticket... More

strategy. McCain knows there are a lot of bitter pro-woman voters out there who are mad hillary didn't get it. I think this will bridge the gap for Dems who don't like Obama and wanted to see a woman in office. This is like a compromise to those voters. I think she's energetic and has some great military credentials. I... More

I'm sure there were various reasons among them could be just what you stated in you question "regulars" or maybe it was the fury against the congress in my opinion governors, even ones who haven't been elected long, are better qualified for president then senators for the simple reason that there coming from another... Much of it has do do with Hillary supporters and proving he is still a maverick. Look at Obama's choice, a true Washington insider. McCain choose a true outsider, that shares many of his views. He picked a very young VP.

He needed a conservative running mate and what better conservative running mate than a woman? No one can say she doesn't care about women's issues! Besides I don't think Romney and McCain are a good "pair" together. I would have loved to see Romney/Palin, but... Oh well, I hope Romney runs in 2012.
