How to convert shower handle fixtures from 3 to 1?

The house I just purchased currently has an older shower, not sure of age, but it has 3 fixture handles in the shower - one for hot, cold and to switch between bath and shower water. We would like to change it to have only one handle that controls everything but I would love to be able to do it myself. I am wondering how tough this job would be for someone with limited plumbing knowledge? Also, we currently have fiberglass shower walls that we are planning on replacing at the same time so access to the pipes is not a problem - there is also access behind the shower from a closet. Any info about this job would be greatly appreciated!

You need to access the pipes first. Their layout will determine what you need. You will probably have a hot water pipe, a cold water pipe meeting at a valve controlled by the third handle. Any hardware store worth your money should have someone there who can explain how to do this work.

don't do it. but if you must get a book from the library there still a good source of info and you can go and borrow it again and again. but keep a few bolt up stop ends handy sounds like you might need them??
