I think i have an eye problem, could anyone help me?
Hi, i know Answers is not the best place to seek medical advice but i thought maybe i could give it a shot. I think i have an eye problem and was wondering if i could have some help in pinpointing where the problem is and what i should do. I am off my parents' insurance at the moment, but i have been accepted at a job and plan on working to get insurance back to see a doctor. Growing up as a kid, i had very good vision. But about 3 years ago when i was 16 years old, i went tanning. I naturally have pretty pale skin and because of it, i was self-conscious (yes, guys do it too). Well, i had went for about a period of about half a year, once every week for about 15-20 minutes. I never really liked wearing the "goggles" because of "raccoon eyes", so i had tanned without them, with only my eyes closed. There were signs that had said UV rays can damage your skin, however i never thought much about my eyes. I mean, my eyelids were closed.. even though i did understand the skin is quite thin. I also don't know if having them open in between moving around in the tanning bed could have contributed as well. Is there anything i could have damaged that may answer my reason for my eyes getting worse? I do not know much of the anatomy of an eye, but am smart enough to understand that they seem to hurt quite a lot lately.. especially under moisture. I have begun to wear glasses ever since those days, and i am on my third pair (my annual pair). The place where i get my prescribed glasses have never made it a point to say that my eyes are extensively poor or that i need to see a doctor, but they have said my vision is getting worse, when i ask them that is. I can't decide if it is a growing old thing, or if the tanning is going to be a significant problem in my future. Please help.. i want to see when i get older. It is such a horrible and miserable feeling to accept that part of my life. I know i cannot go back, and have accepted that. But i am a healthy kid with a great metabolism and smart as attack with computers and in knowing what i want to do with future education. I hate the fact that my eyes could keep me from undergoing the things i want to do, I would give anything to jump back three years ago to correct what i had done. Should i feel so bad and have this constant worry about myself? I feel like the end of my world is coming and i am worried to death about it. Please help.

My cousin got an infected cataract from going to a sunbed without glasses ONCE, and he lost use of one of his eye and can only see a big blur in the other.

I assume that you are nearsighted possibly astigmatic and that is the reason you were prescribed eyeglasses. This tells me that you have already had an eye exam and if the doctor said your eyes are healthy, then you should not be worried about it. Eyes can have refractive errors and still be healthy. If you do not... More
