What would you major in to become a forest/park ranger?

I'm a senior in high school, and I'm seriously considering a job with the national park service as a ranger after I've graduated from college. What would I need to major in while at college in order to pursue this? And how difficult is it to obtain a job as a ranger?

Most "Rangers" in the NPS are in law enforcement but may also have strong backgrounds in life sciences like wildlife biology. These were the people I frequently worked with at Yosemite. Most of what you think of as Forest Rangers are fire fighters. Few have college degrees. There are also many public contact rangers in the Forest service that work in recreation and law enforcement. my guess would be forestry management with some background in law enforcement. Many of the environmental studies programs acan relate to forestry management.
