Is it hard to start up as a taxi driver?

What are the start up costs? Do you have to buy a new car? (if you only have a 3 door?) Do you have to retake a test of some sort? Anyone been a taxi driver? is it hard job>? alot of people who dont pay? men threatening or even women?

You will need THE KNOWLEDGE as it is known,the local Hackney carriage office will give you a test on the different routes to and from places,and any variations they care to throw in.You must also be of good character.GOOD LUCK.

Being unemployed just now, I'm looking into taxi driving as a stop gap. I think taxi driving is a good way to build up on your ability to deal with various types of customers.

Being a taxi driver of a hackney carriage and private hire taxi are 2 different things, it's harder to get a badge for a hackney carriage as those vehicles are expensive... More

You will need: 1) Good knowledge of the road network in your area/ sat-nav 2) A licence to pick people up straight off the street (if they have not booked in advance) 3) Yes, you will need a four door car really 4) Self-defence training would be useful for night work
