Helping a homeless person?
I am trying to help someone who has recently become homeless find a place to stay. She does not do any drugs and is a well educated woman. I do not know her that well and due to a transitional move that I am going through, I cannot have her stay with me. I can pay for her to stay at a hotel for one night, but not much more. Where I live, it seems that there aren't any churches or synagogues that will take her in. She seems very uncomfortable and scared to go to a homeless shelter. What states in the US have friendly people that will take her in (such as friendly churches or synagogues)? I heard that Asheville, NC is friendly, is this true? She was referred to a single-sexed shelter and she didn't feel comfortable there. It was too full anyway.

Try looking for a YWCA, a Woman's shelter or a domestic abuse shelter. Also, even if churches/synagogues do not take someone in they may have a number/address of someone or... More

A battered women's shelter would be her safest bet. Search (google / internet) for your local homeless organizations, in many instances they will assist people with... More
