Should i give him a second chance?

My ex bf (since yesterday) is asking for a second chance to be with me. We havent been together for long, but the times we had together were awesome. Then starting some 2 wks ago he started acting all mean to me and i just dont put up with peoples stuff. He didnt call like he used to and stuff. So i ended breaking up with him yesterday my friends thought it was the right thing to do and so did I... bc i got tired of having to pay for stuff and being taken for granted. He used to pay at the beginning and I ended up paying for everything 2 months into the relationship. So he asks me to talk.. and i said yes and he goes on about how he was mean on purpose and how hes taking me for granted.. and how hes willing to be himself. He was acting real unusal the past 2 weeks. He knows he messed up and I know the real him.. but for some reason he wasnt acting like himself. So i told him i need time to get my life together and he should do the same. But at the same time I regret letting him go and my friends tell me that I did the right thing. I usually dont listen to my friends but this timet hey opened my eyes to different things. So should i give him a second chance and see if hes really going to be himself.. or let him go and close the door and not look back?

It appears he's got a narcissistic type personality. In the beginning these people are master manipulators and could end up quite dangerous. I would close the door, don't look back and run.
